Perfection.
The “merrain” or stave, in a raw state, must now be transformed to become a board of assemblage, the stave “douelle”. Our craftsmen carefully follow a millennium-old procedure that holds the history of the barrel. Some wood is entrenched again, these shavings will benefit the bousinage. The first step consists of cutting the board to reach a required-size barrel (size guide). Then, to facilitate the future bending, the “merrain” is drilled inside and the future outer side is being curved. Finally, as a last step, the angles are adjusted to guarantee complete tightness.
